Printing Prosthetics!

Hi Everyone,
Today's task with the Summer Learning Journey is Printing Prosthetics. For this activity, we would like you to learn more about 3D printed prosthetics (artificial body parts, like hands or arms). Please watch this video about 3D printed prosthetics (artificial body parts, like hands or arms). On your blog, tell your readers: One thing that you learned from watching this video. One thing that surprised you when watching this video. Do you like the idea of the 3D prosthetics, if so why?

The video was really amazing and truly inspirational. I wonder how it felt having a 3D prosthetic hand. One fact that I was really surprised about was the work and effort people make to help save those kids and that 5,400 contributing members, they are on track to provide prosthesis too 6,000 people over the next two years. One thing I also learned from this video is that modern prosthetics can cost tens and thousands of dollars and kids quickly outgrow them, and for most children getting access to these devices is an impossible dream.

  1. Kia ora Bella, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
Well done for creating such a great post about these printed prosthetics!
Isn’t it amazing to see the kinds of things that can be made from modern technology! You mentioned that 5,400 members are on track to provide prosthetics to 6,000 people over the next two years. How incredible is it that all of these young kids are going to be helped out and given the opportunity to have a new hand.
I also wonder how it would feel to have a 3D printed prosthetic hand. I envision that they would be very extremely lightweight, and after a few weeks of wearing one I would imagine that you wouldn’t even know it was there!
3D printers are incredible machines! If you could make anything out of a 3D printer, what would you make?
    Keep up the excellent work!
    Nga mihi
