Today's task with the Summer Learning Journey Programme is "I Have A Dream" For this activity, please consider the problem that black men and women faced in America at this time. On your blog, describe the problem. Martin Luther King Jr was a Christian minister in the United States of America (USA) in the 1950s and 1960s. He spent much of his life fighting for equality (equal rights) for people of color. At the time, there were laws that kept black and white people separated - they went to different schools, used different toilets, and even sat in different parts of a bus and ate in different areas of a restaurant. This was called ‘segregation.’ (The action or state of setting someone or something apart from others)
Dr. King did not agree with these laws and he led many protests against them. He was joined in his protests by many people, including an African American woman named Rosa Parks. In 1955, Rosa boarded a bus in Alabama (USA) and when the bus filled up with people, she refused to give up her seat to a white passenger.
The brave actions of people like Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks were instrumental in changing the way that African Americans (people of color) were treated in the United States. What did Rosa Parks do about the problem? How did other people react? Know that I have completed this task it has definitely taught me a lot about what black men and women faced in America. Have you completed this task before?
1. Question: What did Rosa Parks do about the problem?
Answer: She was instrumental in changing the way that African Americans (People Of Colour) were treated in the United States.
2. Question: What did African Americans do in response to the arrest of Rosa Parks?
Answer: They boycotted (Refused to use) by not riding the city buses.
Kia Ora Bella,
ReplyDeleteThe world has come a long way since the days of segregation and it’s definitely for the better. While we still have a way to go, it’s ordinary people like Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks who stand up and fight for what they believe in that make a difference. It’s always important to remember, just because something is normal doesn’t mean it’s right. And even though it can be hard sometimes, we must always stand up for what we believe in. Have you ever had to stand up for something you believed in, even though it might’ve been difficult?
Could you tell me some of the things Martin Luther King Jr did to help end segregation?
Quick tip: Perhaps you could intersperse your pictures in between your text. It could break it apart a little bit and distribute the colour more through your post.
Happy holidays!
