(Explorers) What 10 Food Items Would You Take If You Were Stranded In The Middle Of The Ocean?

Hi Everyone,
For this task, it explains to you to list ten food items that you could take with you. Think carefully about what you will take as you won’t have access to a refrigerator or freezer while at sea. Please explain why you would select each item. This task was interesting and It made me think for a while. During class, my teacher and my class would say "What if you were trapped on an island and you had no access to water, food or shelter. What would you do?"

1- Canned Beans (I would take canned beans because they come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes, and all of them are hearty sources of low-fat protein, fiber, "good" carbohydrates, and iron. Their soluble fiber helps lower cholesterol levels and normalizes blood sugar levels. They also can play a key role in weight control, as they fill you up for very few calories.)

2- Nuts (A variety of nuts (almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts, and pecans) provides seleniumvitamin E, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, copper, folate, fiber, and healthy unsaturated fats. These nutritious nuts are tasty.)

3- Whole Grain Cereal (whole-grain cereal makes a great snack or breakfast even without milk. Carefully chosen, crunchy whole-grain cereal can be loaded with protein, magnesium, and fiber. And it can fill an empty belly for hours. Top your cereal with dried blueberries and nuts for a great trail mix.)

4- Tea (Tea is a soothing drink that can be enjoyed hot or cold. Not only that, but all types of tea leaves are have chemical compounds thought to reduce the risk of some cancers and heart attacks, as well as to lower cholesterol and boost metabolism.

5-  Muesli Bars (Muesli Bars are a really enjoyable snack to eat, they have fiber in it and it also has lots of calories in it that can boost your fuel)

6- Muffins (I would take a packet of Muffins just for a nice tasty desert to eat if I'm getting a little hungry.)

7- Oranges (Oranges are a refreshing and delicious way to satisfy your sweet tooth, and they provide a wealth of nutritional goodness. They're a rich source of vitamin C, fiber and potassium.)

8- Blueberries (Blueberries can be enjoyed fresh for a few days, then dried for a tasty treat. These blueberries are a top source. They contain cancer-protective ellagic acid, along with urinary tract infections and promote brain health and vision.)

9- Carrot (I would most likely take some carrots because they can help to improve your vision and sighting.)

10- Lollies (I would also have a spear packet of lollies in my bag for a spear treat, they would keep me occupied and boost my sugar levels.)

  1. Kia ora Bella, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
Well done for participating in the Summer Learning Journey and creating this blog post about 10 food items you would take with you if you were going on a sea voyage with no refrigerator or freezer!
You have created an excellent list of food items, and it is awesome how you have really thought about each item you included on your list.
If you were to bring all of these food items on the trip, what meals would you make out of them?
Canned beans, nuts, whole grain cereals, tea and muesli bars are all great choices for this situation as they are non-perishable foods which will last for a long time.
If I were going on this sea voyage, I would pack peanut butter. I eat peanut butter every morning, and don’t think I could go a day without it! Plus, peanut butter is full of good, healthy fats and lasts a while before expiring.
    Keep up the great work!
    Nga mihi

  2. Kia ora Bella,
Wow you have been very thorough with your explanations of the foods you would take. I think you have a good variety to ensure you remain healthy while on the trip.
You have beans for protein however have no meat which is a really good source of protein. On a boat with out a fridge you could still take meat like biltong, beef jerky or salami which are high protein food which also fill you up and stop you feeling hungry.
Do you drink tea, what is your favourite? My favourite tea is a nice Japanese green tea that has puffed rice added.
    Nga mihi,
    Mark
