Cracking The Code! Through Careful Observation

Hi Everyone,
Today's task with the Summer Learning Journey Programme is "Cracking The Code, Through Careful Observation." For this activity, we would like you to select one of the pictures below and to study or observe it closely. What do you see? On your blog, describe the painting in detail. What do you see when you look at it? Please give us as much detail as you can! Out of the two images which are your favorite?

For the very first image, I see is a very beautiful and creative piece of painting created by Vincent Van Gogh. The Starry Night is an oil on canvas by the Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Painted in June 1889, it describes the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an ideal village. From my point of view in this painting is a beautiful beaming, golden sun, with clouds filled with a variety of different colors light blue and dark blue. Not only do I see the sun and the sky filled with colors but a city with lights glistening throughout the town and waves streaming behind the hills.

The second painting is called Day and Night. The painting at the very top of the canvas looks a little illusionary by all the birds flying in the sky in opposite directions some going right and others going left. I also see two large lakes streaming throughout the town with a bridge towering over the two lakes. There are also hills and a town that has lots of little houses surrounded around, and the colours go from white to grey then a darker shade of grey/black.

  1. Kia ora Bella, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
Well done for participating in the Summer Learning Journey and creating this post about cracking the code through careful observation!
You have done an excellent job describing what you can see in Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night’. That particular painting is one of my favourites for almost the exact reasons you enjoyed it; the golden sun, the clouds which are painted with such an array of colours, and the detail which has gone into the sky and village.
He truly was such an amazing artist who inspired so many others with his work.
Have you seen any of Vincent Van Gogh’s other paintings? If so, which ones did you like?
The other image, ‘Day and Night’ is quite an abstract painting which reminds me of a chess board. The birds in the image almost look as though they have been cut out and placed on the opposite side, and the curved rivers and small villages all add so much detail to the picture.
Out of the two images, which one do you prefer and why?
I enjoy drawing and painting. Whenever I’m feeling a little bit down, I always pull out my sketchbook and draw, and it makes me feel so much better!
Do you enjoy drawing and painting?

Note- I am unable to view the images in your post. It would be awesome if you could edit your post and insert the pictures again!
    Nga mihi
