Today I had a scroll through the Week one Summer Learning Journey Tasks. This first task I chose you had to select your own charity or used from the listed below and write about what that charity does, I chose the SPCA. I hope you learn about a few things that the SPCA do.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a charity organization with 39 SPCA Centres across New Zealand. Each of these centers does everything they can to ensure all animals in their region are being looked after.
SPCA believes that engaging, educating and building relationships with our communities is key to improving animal welfare in New Zealand. Like you, they want everyone to know how to look after their animals and give them the love and respect they deserve.
Their SPCA Inspectors, Field Officers and rescue teams work on the front line every day, rescuing animals who have been in an accident, abused, neglected, abandoned or caught up in natural disasters. Last year their teams responded to over 15,000 reports to animals in difficulty across New Zealand!
SPCA is the only charity with the legal powers to help animals in need and bring animal offenders to justice. Our Inspectors are appointed under the Animal Welfare Act 1999 which provides powers to investigate cruelty, abuse, neglect, and abandonment.
Kia ora Bella, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
ReplyDeleteI am extremely pleased that you chose the SPCA as the charity you are interested in. It is such an awesome organisation that does incredible work!
I didn’t know that the SPCA has 39 centres across New Zealand, or that last year they responded to over 15,000 reports of animals in difficulty . Thank you for sharing this new information.
SPCA stands for Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and did you know that in Australia they call it the RSPCA. The ‘R’ in the Australian version stands for the word Royal.
I adopted my kitten from the SPCA as I thought it was a better idea to get him from a charity organisation rather than the pet store.
Have you ever adopted an animal from the SPCA or a similar institution?
Who is the dog in the photo at the bottom of your post?
Nga mihi
Hi Kieryn,
ReplyDeleteThankyou so much for replying to my comment. Thankyou so much for informing me about how the Australian SPCA starts with a R meaning royal I never knew. I have not purchased or adopted a animal from the SPCA before although I would love too. The dog in the picture is named Rocco and he is from the SPCA and so desperately is in need for a home.
Thankyou So Much!
Kind Regards
Bella :)
