I am working really hard throughout the week three tasks with the Summer Learning Journey Programme which has been so enjoyable. Today's week three task is "IMoko" For this activity please think about your own health and well-being (Hauora). What do you, or those in your family, do to stay healthy? On your blog, share five things that you do to stay healthy and strong. In my family, we know that eating the correct foods is the key to staying nice and healthy. What five foods do you and your family eat to help stay healthy?
A healthy diet prevents malnutrition and protects from diseases like obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and stroke. Today, many people's diets consist of more saturated fat, trans fats, sugars, and more sodium than fruits, vegetables, and dietary fiber. Your body's health reflects what you put into it. It is really important that you have a mix of your healthy foods and protein. Five things that help my family and me to stay healthy is...
1. During weekdays going to bed at an early set time e.g (8:30pm-(9:00pm) during that half-hour period, I am reading my chapter books.
2. Tame your stress. Everyone has stressed it's how you react to it that matters. When you often explode in anger, get stomachaches because you're nervous, or have trouble sleeping because you're anxious, it's time to make a change. Find a way to blow off steam, whether that's through exercise, meditation, or laughing with good friends.
3. While at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise is ideal, any movement is better than nothing. So make it a point to stand up more often and stretch, park a bit farther from your destination for extra steps, and explore new pastimes that will help put you in motion. If you have a dog take him/her around your subdivision or block for either a half an hour run or walk, or do some daily exercise to keep your fitness levels up so you have enough energy throughout the day.
4. Become a "Flexitarian" Numerous studies have shown that a plant-based diet is healthiest, but you can still get many of the benefits even if you don't go full-on vegetarian. Following a semi-vegetarian diet that includes fewer animal products but doesn't completely cut them out may help you keep your weight in check as well as lower your chances of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease.
5. Less Sugar, More Water. It's a good idea to avoid added sugar in whatever you eat, yet soda, sports drinks, and energy drinks may be a bigger source than you realize. Some studies show that just a soft drink or two a day makes you 26% more likely to get type 2 diabetes. Sugary drinks have also been tied to heart attacks, gout, and obesity. Stay hydrated with water or, if you miss the fizz and taste, naturally flavored seltzer.
6. It is always important to be eating vegetables and your meats on a daily basis. If you keep this up you will be feeling so much better in no time. And the key thing is to not have too much sugar only a little.

Hi Bella,
ReplyDeleteI really like how you included an interlude to why it is important for your family to stay healthy. It’s important for your readers to understand why you are posting something, so you have done brilliantly on this front, as you have done in many other posts!
You have included a lot of ways to stay healthy. In particular I really like your comment about getting an appropriate amount of sleep. Sleep is super important to me. When I’m lacking I can get grumpy and irritable and that’s no fun for anyone. But when I’ve had my eight hours, I’m cheerier, friendlier, and accomplish more in my day-to-day life. Sleep is so vital for your health and I really like that you have acknowledged how important it is for your total well-being!
Perhaps you could add some more graphics to your post to enhance the reading experience. If you need help or inspiration to do this, look at these tips for making eye catching blog posts
Keep up the great work,
