He told the Scarecrow of the importance of brains, the "mindless" Scarecrow then joins Dorothy in the hope that The Wizard will give him a brain, although throughout the whole journey of the book he is the Character that involves in asking questions and thinking about different ways of making it to the Emerald City, and if you didn't have a brain you wouldn't be able to come up with all of these amazing ideas and suggestions. The Tin Woodman used to be a man of flesh and blood, but a Wicked Witch cursed his axe to cut off all his body parts, which immediately caused him to lose his heart, also losing his love for a Munchkin Maid that he intended on marrying. So he also followed Dorothy so he can ask Oz for a Heart so he can love and feel love again. And Lastly the Cowardly Lion, he joins her so that he can ask The Wizard for courage, ashamed that he is not brave enough to play his part of ruling the King of the Beasts, although he also shows a tremendous amount of courage by scaring off animals that the Wicked Witch has sent and animals in lurking in the forest. 2. The novel makes it clear that Dorothy's Only Dream Is Returning back Home To Kansas.
It is hard for her, considering everyone she has asked in Oz doesn't even know where Kansas is. Whereas the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and The Lion all dream of having something that they already have. Throughout the novel, it was like Dorothy lost her home and her three companions have lost themselves so they each had to figure out their way of reaching their goal. The three friends support each other knowing that Dorothy will return home and the three companions will receive their Brain, Heart and Courage. 3. I think that Dreams do come true In the Land Of Oz, At the beginning of the story she didn't realise where she was and what she had done by Killing The Wicked Witch Of The East, though in order to come back home to Kansas she had to obey the Orders The Great Oz had given her. By the end of the novel, each of the main characters receives what they have been looking for all along, and Dorothy finds out by Glinda the Good Witch that there were magic and power in the Silver Shoes and with three taps she could return anywhere in the World. Dorothy could have returned back home to Kansas the first day she arrived in Oz.
